JAY KILL & THE HUSTLE STANDARD   –   “NEW MEN OLD BOYS” EP

It’s easy to spot the hard hitting drums, ever present bass lines, and nostalgic background vocals of New Men Old Boys. In addition to Hustle’s very stylized production the most endearing element of this EP is the true grit of Jake Hill’s prodding voice.  But considering the perspective of words strung together with experience and craftsmanship, ultimately the weight of the EP is in the lyrics. These songs were inspired by a range of concepts from the fear of love had and lost, to the celebration of a driving independence.

In the end these two artists have created a music collection that is neither Jake Hill nor Charley Hustle but Jay Kill & The Hustle Standard. This is the first collaboration between the folk/americana artist Jake Hill (Jay Kill) and producer/songwriter Charley Hustle (The Hustle Standard). Both creators agree that this process was by far one of the most enjoyable either has ever been a part of.

New Men Old Boys is the first EP in a line of “Hustle Standard” projects that Charley Hustle is in the process of creating with artists from RnB to Pop and Rock.

Charley Hustle

Charley Hustle is a New York City-based producer and songwriter. He has written with many established and up-and-coming songwriters such as Andrea Martin, Syience, Frankie Storm, Alex Da Kid, Cannon, Dvlp, Fraser Smith, and LaRaisha.

Always up for new challenges and the chance to grow, Hustle has made a name for himself writing and producing songs for a wide-range of artists, with an emphasis on developing projects that explore different styles of music – from rock, pop, electro, indie-pop, folk, RnB, and other genres.  He is currently collaborating with a dynamic range of rock and pop artists to develop a series of original “Hustle Standard” EPs.

Jake Hill

Jacob Robert Hill (aka Jay Kill) is a Plymouth, Massachussetts native and resident of 27 years and fancies himself a singer/songwriter.  He has miles on his voice, blisters on his fingers, and stories to tell.  Jake has released 4 albums of music over the last 4 years and has finally hit his stride.  Mr. Kill is proud to have been able to create these songs with Mr. Hustle.  “Good songs rule.  And slides on public playgrounds rule too.  That’s why they only let kids on them.  If they allowed adults to play at will, nothing would ever get done,” says the perplexed Hill.

The Hustle Standard

The idea behind the Hustle Standard is to take an artist out of their usual environment and give them the freedom to do something they’ve always wanted to do, or never knew they could do.

This will be done in a very short amount of time and in the form of an EP.  In this format there is less pressure to create a prolific amount of songs, more time to focus on the good ideas, and the public can have access to new material more rapidly.  This style of “album” making is also conducive to spontaneity and creativity freeing up all those involved in the process to try new things.
